2020 Hoover Elementary Supply List

Principal's Message
Parents of Hoover Elementary School,

I am excited to serve as your Principal at Hoover Elementary School during this 2020-2021 school year. I am looking forward to working with the staff, students and parents of this fine learning institution and wonderful community. I have had the pleasure of working in  Hoover-Schrum Memorial School District for 157 over 19 years; starting as a kindergarten teacher, and then serving our students as a Reading Specialist, and now as a principal. The journey has been worthwhile. I am fortunate to be a part of a community that supports its students and that strives to make a difference in each of our children's lives.

As a native Chicagoan, one important value which was instilled in me then, that  I continue to carry now, is that education is the pathway out of poverty. I attribute this to my parents and the teachers who each took great pride in ensuring I had all the tools that I needed to be successful. Being an educator has motivated me to share and provide as much knowledge as I could to my students throughout the years; after all, they are our future.

After earning my bachelors in Early Childhood Education from Chicago State University, my passion was to educate our children and teach them the fundamentals to become proficient readers. Earning a masters as a Reading Specialist afforded me an opportunity to help children who struggled with the fundamentals skills related to reading. I had the training needed to focus on instruction and reinforce important skills for students. Working in this capacity made me realize that I could help our students even more as an administrator. Therefore, I received a  second master's and a doctorate in Educational Leadership so that I could help my students and teachers want to be a part of a positive learning experience. I am committed to education which is what guides me to ensure our students receive the education they deserve to be successful in life.

As we all know, COVID-19 has taken us by storm and has forced schools across the country to shift in-person lessons and testing to remote learning without warning. Although change is prevalent in our teaching and learning processes, we will not allow this pandemic to be our excuse to not give our future leaders the tools they need to be successful. We will continue to make every effort to ensure each student receives the best education there is to offer.

Therefore, as we plan for the upcoming school year, PLEASE be mindful that social distance learning while in the classroom, providing remote learning classes, and supporting families through this endeavor is my top priority. My philosophy is to make sure that we educate the Whole Child, which requires developing their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive learning (domains).  I believe this will prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of today's society. Educating the whole child ensures that each student is healthy, safe, supported, and provided with the resources required to succeed in life. That’s what Hoover Elementary will accomplish this school year and that is the whole child.
